En Agosto de 2008 a 4.100 metros de altura, en la laguna La Leona en el Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados, observamos el que podría considerarse el nido de loros más alto del mundo, importante hallazgo para las investigaciones con éste loro endémico de Colombia.
Cayendo la tarde del 11 de Agosto, empezamos a escuchar una serie de parloteos, diferentes a los registrados en anteriores ocasiones. Tras esperar un buen rato, una pareja de loritos arribó al nido. Se trataba de dos padres que venían alimentar a sus bullosos polluelos.
El nido estaba empotrado en una pared rocosa (foto de arriba) debajo de una macoya de pasto. Su entrada era de forma circular de unos 8 cm de diámetro, muy similar a los que hacen las golondrinas o los barranqueros del páramo. Más tarde otros parejas llegaron a la misma pared e ingresaron a otros nidos en donde se escuchaban más pichones.
Este importante hallazgo, también ayuda a confirmar que la eclosión de huevos y la formación de las nidadas de polluelos del Lorito cadillero es a finales del segundo y comienzos del tercer trimestre del año.

En el Nevado del Tolima he registrado el lorito en el sector sur (Campamento 4.000), en el termal de Cañón y en Romerales.
